Saunton Sands SLSC IRB
The IRB (inshore rescue boat) section is another extension of the fantastic array of activities offered by Saunton sands SLSC.

The group is growing slowly but surely with courses run every year to qualify those interested in crewing and operating rescue boats. There is a real sense of community within the club and the IRB team are no exception to this.
There are training courses, weekends away, event safety cover, racing, maintenance days and of course the chance to use your qualifications professionally either with the RNLI or for event safety.
Our aim is to get people through their qualifications so they can safely and confidently operate craft within the challenging surf environment, effect rescues and of course we have a lot of fun along the way.
If you choose to join you’ll be expected to get involved in crewing the boats initially then moving onto your drivers awards. We all chip in with maintenance but there’s plenty of fun still had even on the more mundane jobs. The club is also affiliated to a flood rescue team and the IRB team is well placed to move into this field if that’s their interest.
The minimum age is 17 (18 to helm) and you must pass one of a number of basic courses before you can be put forward for training (all provided by the club).
We really do have a great team of enthusiastic IRB operators who are willing and helpful when it comes to sharing their passion for inshore rescue boats.
